OJ Mayo returns to Cincinnati to watch former teammate Bill Walker

January 4th, 2007 by

O.J. Mayo returned to Cincinnati and sat in the front row near half-court for Wednesday’s Kansas State-Xavier game. Xavier went on to win 76-66 with an aggressive defense. Both OJ Mayo and Bill Walker have moved on from North College Hill High School after finishing their junior seasons with a second Ohio state championship. Walker graduated early and enrolled at Kansas State upon being declared ineligible for his senior season. Mayo returned to his hometown of Huntington, W. Va., and will play for Southern California beginning next season.

Mayo on coming to the game:

“I just wanted to come and watch Kansas State and Bill play. We talk on a day-to-day basis. He’ll call me, or I’ll call him. He’s most definitely in a good situation.”

Mayo on watching the game:

“It’s funny, watching Bill out there as a college player. He seems a lot older than me now.”

Mayo on Walker’s early success at Kansas State:

“Right now, I’m playing high school ball, trying to win a national championship. It’s going real well, but I can’t wait to have an impact on college basketball.”
