O.J. Mayo and Highlanders win Sectional

March 2nd, 2007

O.J. Mayo finished with 18 points and 10 assists playing point guard for the majority of the game. A 17-foot jumper on the game’s first possession gave Mayo, who will be at USC next season, 4,000-points for his six-year career. The Highlanders blew out the Spring Valley Timberwolves 83-47. Huntington will play the winner of Friday’s Region VIII, Section 1 final between Cabell Midland and Hurricane on Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Field House.

  1. I have two boys ages 9 and 11 that attended the MJ Flight School in Santa Barbara, Ca. last year where O.J. Mayo! was invited and attended. Of course they wanted to see Jordan, what kid wouldn’t? But honestly by the third day of camp, it was Jordan who? All eyes were on O.J Mayo. There was a counselor game one evening and Jordan and Mayo went toe to toe. MJ was clearly tring to frustrate OJ by being very physical and down right nasty to OJ. OJ kept his cool and made Jordan look like the rookie and OJ the Hall of Famer. Very impressive Mr. Mayo. But what struck me the most was that OJ took the time to sign probably 500+ autographs for all the kids on shirts, shoes, etc. never turned down anyone. He took pictures with my kids and signed thier basketballs. They received a certified autograph basketball by Michael Jordan. I will tell you this that ball is in the closet while their OJ MAYO! Basketball stands proudly next to their beds…..Thanks OJ, good luck and God Bless!
