Tim Floyd comments on O.J. Mayo

July 27th, 2007 · No Comments

What does coach Tim Floyd expect to get from O.J. Mayo in his freshman season? In a question and answer session, Steve Brauntuch of CSTV asks Floyd questions about the Trojans, recruiting, and O.J. Mayo:

I think people need to remember that he is a freshman, that there will be some growing pains along the way. But I think that what I’m witnessing already is leadership, a guy who is trying to rally all of our guys to get in the gym, lift, work in periods when the coaches can’t work with them in the weight room or individual skill-wise, making sure that guys get to classes on time and where they need to be. In addition to that, [he has] a very talented, very mature game, a guy who can play multiple positions, a guy who has great poise and tremendous skill level.

O.J. Mayo will make his debut in a Trojan’s uniform in early November.

Today’s OC Register has an article about how OJ Mayo is already quietly leaving his mark on the USC basketball program. He has enrolled in 2 courses this summer and has been getting teammates together for nightly scrimmages:

Mayo, who goes by O.J., also has also taken charge of a ballyhooed group of recruits, — without prompting from USC coaches —, by organizing workouts and putting together nightly pickup games at Galen Center.
